Biography

Dr. Saretzki was born in Berlin, graduated in Genetics from Sankt Petersburg University (Russia) in 1982 and completed her PhD in Molecular Biology at the Humboldt-University Berlin in 1990. As a post-doc she worked on telomeres, telomerase, oxidative stress and cellular senescence. In 2002 she became a lecturer in ageing research at Newcastle University (UK) focussing on non-canonical functions of the telomerase protein TERT in mitochondria. She extended this work to non-canonical functions of TERT in brain and neurodegenerative diseases such as AD and PD. She is now retired but still a visiting lecturer at Newcastle University. She published around 110 papers with an H-index of 56.
